A Dreaded Sunny Day So I'll Meet You at the Cemetery Gates..........

OK, sorry not to have posted last week but I was not at home. Traveled over to Edinburgh to see Mum as she was a bit poorly. Also the last couple of weeks have been a bit crazy with some major changes going on and no internet! As a consequence I have done no sewing (again). This is a bit of a recurring theme on this blog but yesterday one of the massive changes was that I finally got the studio back to myself. Today I have been hard at it sorting things out, shifting furniture and generally changing things round so that I can finally have a space to work in that is clean, (reasonably) clutter-free and my own again. It feels great.

I have tons of vintage notions.

So with nothing hot from my machine to show you I am kind of at a loss what to post. I was going to write about the recent interesting "Wardrobe Architect" series on the Coletterie blog but although I was pinning like mad on my Pinterest Board which you can see here, I still don't have a clue what to sew or wear. Wardrobe Architect is a great series, it has really made me think about what I like and my personal style. The big problem, no pun intended, is that all the styles I like are for skinny boho 70's groupies and vintage glamour pusses and I am none of the above. So what do you do when your person can't match up to your personal style? I need to regroup I think.

So with nothing to show you I will leave you of some pics I took at the Necropolis in Glasgow.

In a Julia Margaret Cameron Stylee! (Hurrah for Photoshop)

I used to work in the hospital close by and go there for a wander at lunchtimes.

It is a beautiful Victorian cemetery, opened in 1833, and filled with loads of statues and forgotten graves designed by the likes of Alexander "Greek" Thompson and Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Cheer up love. Bah, and I thought "I" was a bit of a Goth!

If you are ever in Glasgow it is well worth a visit and you can get stunning views across the city from up on the hill where the Necropolis stands. I have a bit of a thing for graveyards (and Photoshop, can't you tell). They are always so peaceful. Great places to take a book and real havens for wildlife. You sometimes used to get deer in the Necropolis and loads of beautiful bunnies.

Anyway, have a great week people. Happy June!

K xx

  1. I wondered where you had been! Gorgeous photos of the cemetery, I do love a Victorian graveyard, so beautiful and atmospheric, especially of it's a bit dilapidated and overgrown.
I don't have any answers about your style dilemma. Unless you just ignore the idea that only certain body types can wear certain styles/clothes, and go for what you like. I don't think size should prohibit anyone from dressing how they want. xxx

    1. The Necropolis is really beautiful, na d the biews avross Glasgow are stunning. They say that on a clear day you can see out to the sea. You know you are right i just don't want stuff to wear me, if you know what I mean. I am really hankering after a white suit a la Bianca Jagger though. It is a bit of a recurring theme in my Pinterest board. I guess that I am just a child of the 70's.

    1. Thanks Rhonda. I love Pinterest, it is such a good tool for making up moodbioards or just browsing. The ony drawback is that it is such a thief of time. :)

  3. Beautiful photos. I'm the last person to ask style advice from...but surely you can incorporate elements of the styles you love, tweaked to suit you (especially as you can make them to fit you perfectly)? I dunno...just a thought.

    1. Thank you for the compliment. I like playing around on Photoshop (another thief of time) as I can fix most of the things wrong with my pics. A bit of tweaking sounds like a great plan although it would have to be a lot to make my ginormous bosom fit into anything remotely like those styles. Will be fun to try though. Eally looking forward to seeing your lovely summer dress. :)

    1. Thanks Kimberley. Stonework would look great in pencil or even charcoals on a nice rough paper. What a great idea. :)

  5. I love this blog post so much, great title and beautiful pictures! Also dress for your personality not your dress size ;) if you feel uncomfortable in certain things start off with accessories (of course I would say that haha but think it's best way to ease yourself into a look) and can imagine you really pulling off the 70's style, maybe start off with a jewel fedora and smart/casual blazer? 1. Aww thanks Mel. I used to dress in pretty much all vintage but have lots my bottle. I think that without that confidence it can look a bit costumey. I love, love, love hats and have a bedroom full of 70's "pimp" style ones and 60's hats. I have a great maroon glitter fluffy fedora. I must wear it one of these days. Thanks for the lovely thoughtful comment. xxxx

    2. Ahh I know how you feel, I have a couple of gorgeous wide-brimmed fedoras that I absolutely love, but for some reason I always feel a bit like Oscar Wilde when I wear them! Think it's easier to go for that style on an evening/night time where people are more 'dressed up' so you feel less self-conscious, I do think you'd really suit them though :) and you're welcome!
